How It Works: Your Journey from Box to Plate!

We've made growing your own gourmet mushrooms incredibly simple. Just follow these four steps, and you'll be harvesting in no time!

Step 1: Cut the 'X'

Your journey begins with a simple cut. Following the instructions, carefully slice an 'X' into the bag containing your mushroom block. This tells the mycelium it's time to wake up and start growing!

Step 2: Let it Breathe

Now, it's time for a little patience. Place your box in a spot with good ambient light, but out of direct sun. The mycelium needs to breathe in fresh air to get the signal to produce mushrooms. You'll see the magic start to happen soon!

Step 3: Monitor and Care

Once you see tiny mushroom pins starting to form, your job as a mushroom farmer begins! Keep an eye on them daily.

Feeling Dry? If the mushroom looks dry, give it a gentle mist with water from your spray bottle. (wait until dry before spraying again to avoid over watering)

Long Stems? If your mushrooms are growing long, skinny stems, they're searching for more oxygen! Simply open a window or move them to a spot with better air circulation.

Step 4 & 5

Step 4: Harvest at the Perfect Time!

This is the exciting part! As soon as your mushrooms look big and ready (check the pictures on our instructions page for the perfect size), harvest them immediately. Don't wait too long, as mature mushrooms will drop their spores, which can prevent future harvests from the same block. Enjoy your delicious, homegrown bounty!

Step 5: If the conditions are right, you may see a regrowth or two in the next 3 weeks after your first harvest.

Step 5: If 4 weeks go by with no regrowth, the journey is not over! Every box plays a part in spreading the mycelium that heals the soil, breaks down pollutants and grows abundant medicinal mushrooms in the wild. After your box has not produced in 4 weeks, its time to find a good spot to spread the mycelium. (find full details on our instructions page)
